Switchboard Upgrades & Electrical Work — Brisbane, Gold Coast & SEQ
Safe, compliant switchboards ready for solar, battery and EV. Fixed price tiers, in-house licensed team, certificate provided.
Safe switchboards, ready for solar, battery & EV
Your switchboard is the safety and capacity hub of your home. If it is outdated, full or missing modern protection, it can hold back solar, battery storage, backup power or EV charging. Energy Gate upgrades switchboards and electrical circuits as part of energy projects, so the solar, battery or charger is connected to wiring that can safely support it.
What we do
Switchboard & meter-board upgrades
Full rebuild or partial upgrade, done to standard
Safety switch install & replacement
Modern RCDs/RCBOs where the board has none
Cable upsizing
For long runs, heavier loads and Queensland heat
Dedicated circuit additions
For EV chargers, batteries and new equipment
Fault-finding & repairs
Diagnose and fix properly, not just patch
Solar, battery & EV electrical prep
We know exactly what your board needs to support them
Electrical Upgrade
Signs your switchboard needs an upgrade
Not every home needs a switchboard upgrade — a modern board with spare capacity may only need one new circuit. Older boards with ceramic fuses, missing safety switches, heat damage or poor earthing often need work first. We assess before quoting.
Ceramic or rewireable fuses?
No safety switches, or not enough protected circuits?
No spare capacity for solar, battery, backup or EV circuits?
Old meter board, asbestos backing, damaged enclosure or heat marks?
Long cable runs, voltage drop or undersized consumer mains?

Why your switchboard matters
Old boards are a safety risk
Ceramic fuses or no RCDs miss the fast-acting protection that prevents shock and fire
No spare capacity
Solar, a battery or a 7kW EV charger add sustained new demand an old board can’t take
Standards apply to new circuits
Adding solar, battery or EV triggers specific protection requirements on those circuits
Better done together
Upgrading now avoids a half-finished job that can’t be certified later
Not sure your board needs an upgrade?
We’ll tell you honestly what actually needs doing — not upselling.
Battery backup is an electrical design, not a battery setting
A backup gateway or sub-board must isolate the home from the network and supply only the circuits the battery can safely support. We help choose practical essentials — fridge, lights, internet, power points, selected air conditioning — then wire and label the backup circuits clearly.
Cable sizing in Queensland conditions
One of the easiest corners for cheap installs to cut, and one of the hardest for customers to see. Cable must be sized for current, distance, conditions and heat — correct sizing avoids voltage drop, heat, nuisance inverter shutdown and future upgrade problems.
Built to the wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000)
All electrical work is carried out to AS/NZS 3000 (the Wiring Rules) by a registered electrical contractor, with the correct protection, isolation and cable sizing for each circuit and for the Queensland climate. On completion you receive an electrical safety certificate — documented proof the work is compliant and safe, which also protects your insurance position.
Correct protection, isolation and cable sizing for each circuit, sized for the Queensland climate
Energy Gate uses quality protection because it’s the equipment that protects people, wiring and expensive energy equipment. A Type A RCBO combines residual-current and overcurrent protection for each circuit, reducing nuisance impact when one circuit trips. Hager and Clipsal are trusted brands — the exact device is selected for the circuit and equipment, including special requirements for EV charging where applicable.
